Kevin Espiritu (b. 1987) is an autodidact working in San Diego, and the founder of Epic Gardening, the largest gardening media enterprise on the planet. This is a fact he wears lightly, as though global cultivation were merely a preparatory étude for the cultivation of the self.
Operating under the nom d'artiste RampFade, Espiritu first took pen to paper on the ninth of June, 2025, at the age of thirty-seven: not as vocation, nor as strategy, but as an act of quietude. A deliberate stilling of the clamor of severe OCD, anxiety, and depression. What announced itself as therapy soon hardened into discipline, and discipline, within mere months, into an œuvre; collectors, sensing the tremor of the authentic, began to acquire.
His practice oscillates - restlessly, almost devotionally - across the porous membrane between the observed and the imagined. There are the vegetal and still-life studies, rendered with a reverence bordering on the liturgical; the urban sketches, apprehended in pen, ink, and watercolor as fugitive glimpses of the quotidian sublime; and the conceptual, frankly surreal oils, in which the interior life is permitted, at last, to bleed unmediated onto the canvas.
Traversing pen and ink, then watercolor, then oil within the compass of a single revolution around the sun, Espiritu treats each medium not as a technique to be mastered but as a discrete grammar of attention, a site at which restlessness is conscripted into labor rather than exorcised. The produce and hushed domestic objects that recur, insistently, throughout the work are no mere motif; they are the native tongue of a man who has spent a lifetime witnessing things grow, now transposed into the register of paint.
Having once conjured a global audience from nothing, Espiritu approaches RampFade with that same unteachable instinct: placing singular works into the hands of collectors while offering the labor itself up to public view, its velocity, its unflinching candor, and its genesis in genuine difficulty standing not beside the paintings but within them, indivisible from the thing made.
