Kevin Espiritu (b. 1987) is a self-taught artist based in San Diego and the founder of Epic Gardening, the largest gardening media company in the world. Under the alias RampFade, he picked up a pen for the first time on June 9, 2025, at thirty-seven. Not as a career move, but as a way to quiet severe OCD, anxiety, and depression. What began as therapy became a discipline, and within months a body of original work that collectors began to buy.
His practice moves quickly and deliberately between the observed and the imagined: vegetable and still-life studies rendered with an almost devotional attention, urban sketches caught in pen, ink, and watercolor, and conceptual, surreal oil paintings that let the interior life spill onto the canvas. Progressing from pen and ink to watercolor to oil in a single year, Espiritu treats each medium as another way of paying attention. A place where restlessness is put to work rather than pushed away. The produce and quiet domestic objects that recur through the work aren't incidental; they're the language of someone who has spent his life watching things grow, now translated into paint.
